From climate change to terrorism, crosscultural tensions to poverty and women’s rights, Amma’s observations invite each of us to get involved in the process of rebuilding a concerned and caring society.

Embracing the World exists to help alleviate the burden of the world’s poor through helping to meet their five basic needs – food, shelter, education, healthcare and livelihood – wherever and whenever possible.

Amma’s NGO has a special consultants status at UN and her university was given the first UNESCO chair
on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Amma believes that having these needs met is the fundamental right of any human being, and that it is the responsibility of each of us to strive hard to ensure that one day, every human being can live in dignity, safety, security and peace.

Every year, one in a hundred babies is born with congenital heart disease, the most common birth defect in the world and the #1 cause of death for children under the age of one. In Lebanon alone, more than 700 babies are diagnosed with congenital heart disease every year and with the influx of refugees, this number has doubled. More than half of these children will need heart surgery to survive.
Gift of Life International (GOLI) is the largest non-profit organization in the world that helps children with congenital heart disease. GOLI is headquartered in the United States and in the past 4 decades has saved more than 30,000 children from 87 countries. “Gift of Life Lebanon”, a chapter of “Gift of Life International” was founded in September 2015 by humanitarian Lina Shehayeb (currently President of Rotary Intercountry committee Lebanon/USA) and a group of experienced Rotarians.
This terrific NGO has had the privilege to partner with the Children Heart Center at The American University Medical Center of Beirut (AUBMC), the leader pediatric cardiac medical center in the Middle East region.

The chapter has also partnered with Hammoud Hospital in southern Lebanon, to service the growing number of patients from the region and especially refugees, by working closely with the United Nation’s. UNHCR and URNWA in order to save the life of over 100 children yearly through heart surgery.

This has been possible because of the help of GOLI, Rotary Clubs around the world and The Rotary Foundation, Business institutions and generous individuals. Gift of Life provides health care to every needy child with congenital heart problems regardless of gender, religion or national origin while running a prevention and awareness campaigns.
